    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the all volunteer Friends of the South Coastal Library (FOSCL), welcome to our website!

We are happy to have you here and invite you to browse around, learn more about us, and to reach out and join with us in supporting our wonderful community library.

The role of our libraries in helping to meet educational and community needs is both broader and more important than ever, and FOSCL is proud to support our outstanding community library in this mission. So much more than a repository for books, the library is a safe place in our community for learning, growing, understanding, connecting and sharing.  We are so fortunate to have a great library, and I don’t take that for granted.

The South Coastal Library (SCL) is continuously growing and changing to meet our community’s evolving needs, and FOSCL lends support by raising funds, sponsoring events, enriching library collections, by making important technology services available, by promoting use of library resources and services, and in partnership with our community elementary and pre-school by sponsoring events bringing authors to the classroom.  These special visits and presentations encourage students to read and write more, help motivate reluctant and struggling readers, and offer a chance for students to see a real person talk about their creative career. There is nothing like seeing a fidgety 8-year-old whose attention is riveted to a children’s book author we sponsored in their classroom, or the excitement of a child who receives their very own copy of that author’s book to keep and take home.

As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, our work relies on funds raised through our community projects and from important individual donations.  You may already be familiar with our biggest community event: The beloved Beach & Bay Cottage Tour — our signature event.  It’s a year-long effort with many vitally important sponsors and many hours of dedicated volunteer support.  All net proceeds from the Tour go directly to projects and services offered to the Community by South Coastal Library.  Our Pop-Up Book Sales are also popular with the community and, of course, we welcome and rely on direct individual contributions.  We deeply appreciate being remembered in the charitable giving plans of community members and friends. With the help of such gifts we can continue to fund programs and activities at the library for the benefit of library patrons and our community.

There are many ways for you to participate in and support FOSCL programs and projects. FOSCL members contribute time as volunteers, educators, fundraisers, activity organizers, outreach leaders and so much more.  The FOSCL Nominating Committee begins seeking nominees to the FOSCL Board in the Spring of each year. FOSCL offers community members the opportunity to work together with new friends and neighbors to strengthen our already excellent library, and to bring valuable programs and services to our community.  Watch for our announcement in the Coastal Point inviting interested parties to apply to be considered for the FOSCL Board, and check our website to apply on-line.  It couldn’t be easier.  Or please reach out to us: 302.537.5828 | www.foscl.com | info@foscl.com | P.O. Box 1617, Bethany Beach, DE 19930-1617.  We would welcome getting to know you.

    Warmly,

    Barb Calkins

    POP-UP BOOK SALE

SCL is now accepting book donations. Our stock of gently used books severely depleted with Covid-19 virus restricting donations for almost one and half years. The library now welcomes donations of books that are in good condition and no older than 10 years. Think of all the books you may have purchased from Amazon and BJ's when the library was closed!

Donations will be accepted at the library on Tuesdays from 2-4pm. If you can't come then, pease call the library to schedule a drop-off time. The library's new phone number is 302-858-5518. We appreciate your generosity and look forward to when we can schedule our next book sale.
